Dibrugarh: “In this age of competition, the students will have to have a studious bent of mind to be able to outshine others and make a place for themselves. Hard work is a must for success, and there is no alternative to it. Through hard work, one can overcome the challenges in life, and be the owner of a powerful personality,” said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the year-long platinum jubilee celebrations of the Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi College on Thursday.
In the same breath, he also urged the students to excel in the field of sports and culture, apart from education, besides asking them to study for at least 10 hours a day outside the school hours while underscoring the close relationship between hard work and success. Sonowal, an alumnus of DHSK College himself, asserted that the institution had a distinct identity and a good name in the field of education in Assam. Nevertheless, Sonowal added that the students, teachers and well-wishers associated with the college would have to jointly devise a plan in order to maintain that good name and to make the institution famous all across India.
Speaking on the virtue of work culture, he said that it was through work culture that change could be brought to the society. He also observed that under the light of the principles established by the forefathers of the people, the residents of Assam should work towards building a stronger state. Highlighting the ‘Act East Policy’ of the Central Government, Sonowal said that the development of the entire Northeast, including Assam, was a key component of it, and added that flight services were started between Dhaka, Bangkok and Singapore to bolster Northeast India’s communication with South East Asia.
Terming social media as an innovation with a progressive character, he appealed to the students to refrain from using the platform in ways that could harm the country or pit one section of the citizens against another.
