NAGAON: The state of Assam and the entire northeastern region is suffering from extremely high temperatures in the past few days. In view of this situation, the district administration of Nagaon has decided to change the timings for the schools in the district.

The notification published by the district administration said that this change will be seen in both government and private educational institutions. The order comes to force with immediate effect and will continue to be in force till any further notice is issued in this regard.

“In the interest of the public, the timing of the following categories of Educational Institutions (Government and private) under Nagaon District is hereby rescheduled. The timings of Lower Primary (LP) schools will start from 7:30 am to 12:15 pm, Middle English (ME) school timings are 7:30 to 12:45 pm and higher secondary schools start from 7:30 am to 1:15 pm," mentioned the order.

Multiple female students of the Fakaruddin Ali Ahmed High School located in Chuwa Guri fainted due to extreme heat. The incident took place during the morning prayers on Saturday. One of the affected students was initially shifted to the Biswanath Ghat Primary Health Centre and later moved to the Biswanath Chariali Civil Hospital for better medical care.

All the students have been mentioned to be out of any serious problem according to the doctors. But the incident triggered fear among the parents of the school.

Another similar incident was reported from Tezpur on Friday. A total of 11 students had fainted in a school located in Tezpur of Assam because of the heat. The incident took place in the Sonitpur Jatiya Vidyalaya of Tezpur.

The problem started with several students of class VII and class VIII of the school complaining about discomfort and fainting. They were inside their designated classrooms when this incident took place. All the victims were rushed to the Gate Hospital located in Tezpur and first aid was administered to them. The conditions of the victims of the scorching heat were reported to be stable.
