DIGBOI: Following repeated complaints and allegations centring round the delay and alleged below standard work of the 10.10-km long Tingrai-Dwarmara road under construction in Tinsukia district, Bhaskar Pegu the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, inspected the work site on Monday morning along with other departmental officials and local BJP MLA Suren Phukan.

The top district official asked the firm to immediately complete the project and meet the standards as per the work specification. “Twice earlier I had pressed departmental official to inquire into the progress and standard of the works on receipt of repeated complaints from various quarters,” said the Deputy Commissioner, adding “I have directed the defaulting agency concerned to complete it on time and improve the feeble construction wherever detected,” he said.

Meanwhile, the incumbent MLA Digboi, Suren Phukan alleged that the work under construction was below specific standard and remained incomplete despite the term elapsed. “The work, which kicked off on June 5, 2018 and ought to have been completed within 21 months, is still lying pending. Only 10 per cent of the work has been achieved till date, that too with several loopholes in the construction,” alleged Phukan. “I have apprised the issue to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently who immediately acted, issuing instructions to the officials concerned into the mentioned aspects. The construction agency has been indifferent towards the repeated complaints and directives of the departments too,” said the MLA.
