DOOMDOOMA: Synchronizing with the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30, the National Leprosy Eradication Project has started Anti-Leprosy Awareness Fortnight as 'SPARSH' Leprosy Awareness Campaign. As a part of it, Tinsukia District Leprosy Cell organized an awareness programme at Borhapjan High School here today.
The programme began with offering floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi by the headmistress of Borhapjan High School, Junumoni Burhagohain. An awareness rally was brought out in Borhapjan area with the participation of the students and teachers of the school. After the rally, an awareness meeting was held at the school. Addressing the students, the District Leprosy Officer, Tinsukia, Dr. Romen Sonowal and retired official of District Leprosy Cell , NC Das illustrated various aspects of leprosy and the false belief about the disease among the masses. Later, an open quiz was organized among the students on leprosy on the basis of the lectures delivered by the resource persons.
