Tinsukia Police act against pharmacy owner for home-quarantine violation

TINSUKIA: As an exemplary case, the pharmacy trader who deliberately escaped mandatory home quarantine protocol was booked under 188/271 IPC by Tinsukia police on Saturday after police was criticized by media and conscious public for dilly-dallying the grave issue even as the offence was committed on March 24.

The Tinsukia district administration, following an inquiry based on suo-moto, found that Rakesh Agarwal, the proprietor of Aran Medicos located at AT Road Tinsukia, allegedly violated COVID-19 home quarantine guidelines by social mixing even after being stamped (The Sentinel, March 27). During inquiry, it was learnt Agarwal admitted his cognizance in writing before the inquiry officer. The officer-in-charge of Tinsukia Sadar police station, Nitul Das told this correspondent that based on the FIR lodged by the administration, a case has been registered against Rakesh Agarwal with follow up legal action. The administration has also sealed the pharmacy.
