TINSUKIA: Based on specific information, a joint team of Tinsukia police led by SI Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan and the army nabbed an arms dealer along with an accomplice from Borguri Bypass Chariali and recovered a 7.62 mm pistol, a magazine and 3 rounds of live cartridges on Wednesday night.

The duo had been identified as Majid Khan and Chandan Shah, both residents of Lal Bangla Road, Tinsukia. Based on their confession, police picked up another person- Kundan Kurmi from Mohkhuli on the outskirts of Tinsukia.

According to Phukan, Chandan Shah made a deal with Majid Khan to purchase a pistol from Muzaffarpur, Bihar against payment of Rs 30,000 and accordingly, Kundan Kurmi, the driver of Khan, brought the pistol from Muzaffarpur and reached Tinsukia by train on Wednesday. They fell into the police-Army dragnet when the culprits were attempting to sell it at Rs 1 lakh. Phukan further told that the antecedents of the duo were being checked from call records for any previous deal, though they have denied.
