Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha's biennial conference to be held at Balijan

DOOMDOOMA: The 21st biennial conference of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX) will be held at Balijan near Digboi on January 16 and January 17 next year. A decision to this effect as taken by the executive committee of TZZZ in a meeting held at Jugal Kishore Keshan Bhaban, Makum on Tuesday with president Arjun Baruah in the chair.

Balijan branch, one of the most active branches of TZXX, will host the conference. The election process to elect new president, vice-president and secretary for formation of the new committee would be initiated on November 14. The meeting gave direction to the branches under it to form the new committees by December next.

The ballot papers for election of president, vice-president and secretary of the Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) were also distributed among the branches in the meeting and the branches were told to submit the filled up ballot papers in a sealed cover by post addressed the Secretary, TXXX so as to reach him on or before December 13.

The meeting authorised magazine editor Arunima Handique to start publication work of the magazine so that it could be inaugurated at the conference. The meeting also formed a three-member committee with Soumitra Gogoi as convenor to select a pious lady of the district for conferring the 'Noni Neog Commemorative Award' that is awarded under the initiative of TZXX at an interval of every two years.

TZXX president Arjun Baruah also apprised the meeting about completion of the construction works of the two busts of Jugal Kishore Keshan and Benudhar Neog by sculptor Mridusmita Chaudhury, which would be installed in front of the office premises of TZXX. The family members of Jugal Kishore Keshan who donated the land and building of the TZXX office at Makum, has borne the expenses of both the busts and is also currently carrying out the renovation work of the office building on their own. The two busts will be installed as and when the renovation work of the office building is completed.

The meeting adopted a resolution to thank Prassana Keshan for his generosity. The meeting was also attended by Dr Girish Handique, district representative and member of high power committee of AXX.
