MANGALDAI: Cops are frequently ridiculed even for their good works and rarely receive praises. But, Chirang District Police in the BTR deserves a huge applause for their tireless efforts on April 17 that has saved countless lives.
The corona conundrum has had adversely affected police along with other agencies as many cops tested positive and were sent home for quarantine. The fear of contagion gripped the minds of people irrespective of religion, language and caste, but the terrorists are becoming emboldened to commit heinous crimes. In one such attempt, the National Liberation Front of Bodoland – a newly formed militant outfit led by Batha has procured deadly explosives namely Trinitrotoluene commonly known as TNT, pressure cookers, electric wires, batteries, iron balls/pellets, gun powders to make a potent IED.
Acting on a tip off about the presence of explosives in Indo-Bhutan border areas, Chirang District Police led by Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh swung into action and launched a massive combing operation at multiple locations in far-flung areas under the direct command of Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Prakash Medhi on April 16. The operation continued for more than 30 hours resulted in the arrest of one militant and the subsequent recovery of 7.5 kilograms of TNT explosives, two country-made rifles, two brand new pressure cookers, 200 metres of electric wire, 100 grams of gun powder, batteries, 157 numbers of iron balls and 28 numbers of iron bearings. And the Chirang Police nipped the NLFB's evil plan in the bud by acting swiftly and did not allow the monsters to take the lives of innocent people.
Meanwhile, Special Director General of Police, Assam Dr LR Bishnoi has congratulated the Team Chirang District Police for their successful effort in making our society free from all evil design.
