MORIGAON: In a joint meeting held on Tuesday, Tiwa organizations demanded that the Morigaon constituency should be reserved for ST people.

In a press release signed by the Chief Executive Member of the Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC), Paban Manta and leaders of various Tiway bodies, it was stated that the Morigaon constituency should be reserved for tribes people. A strong demand for ST reservation was sought in 2002 after forming the delimitation committee.

The organizations said that the Morigaon constituency was reserved for tribes till 1977. But intentionally in order to lessen the tribes population in Morigaon constituency, it was made reservation-free by amalgamating the three tribes mouzas of Guva, Utterkhula and Ghaguwa with Jagiroad constituency. The organizations will submit a memorandum in this regard to the Chief Minister, chairman of delimitation commission and all political parties.
