Tiwa Langkhon Festival concludes in West Karbi Anglong district

The 16th edition of the Langkhon Festival of the Tiwa tribe which was observed for two days scheduled from October 30 at Langkhon Kham village located within the general area of Amri, West Karbi Anglong district, came to a grand closer on October 31.

HOWRAGHAT: The 16th edition of the Langkhon Festival of the Tiwa tribe which was observed for two days scheduled from October 30 at Langkhon Kham village located within the general area of Amri, West Karbi Anglong district, came to a grand closer on October 31.

The cultural event was joined by 17 cultural groups from nearby areas. The Langkhon Festival was organized by the Karbi Anglong district committee of Tiwa Cultural Society and the Langkhon Celebration Committee. This Tiwa festival entails worshipping bamboo over four days variably between October and December.

The Tiwa tribe celebrates the harvest festival to offer their sacrament to Ramsa Devota and other Gods seeking wellbeing of their paddy from pests and a good yield. They pray for prosperity and good health of the family and village to ward off evil and sickness.

In the two day fiesta, artistic activities like conventional dance, Langkhon dance, Moinari Khanthi and traditional song Yangli were presented. Traditional sports Plasele and Sam Kava were also played.

D. Uphing Maslai, Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) formally declared the event open. MLA of Baithalangso constituency Rupsing Teron Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Prabhat Chandra Taro, Former Tripura MLA, Dananjay Tripura, Member of Autonomous Council Tilutima Hasnu were present at the event.
