Top-Level Reshuffle: Ghanshyam Das, IAS Appointed as Secretary to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: In some top-level bureaucratic reshuffle in Assam, senior IAS officer Ghanshyam Das has been appointed as Secretary to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The announcement was made on Saturday.

Das was earlier serving as the Secretary in the agriculture department, an official release said.

Das also served as Labour Commissioner and Commissioner Guwahati Municipal Corporation. He was also the Deputy Commissioner of Goalpara from 2017 to 2018. In January this year, he was transferred from the post of Commissioner Guwahati Municipal Corporation and his services were placed at the disposal of the Government of Meghalaya for his posting in the state of Meghalaya.

Das is a 2012 batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. Das, 35 years old, originally hails from Haryana.

In another decision, Assam civil service officer Simanta Kumar Das, who was the Tinsukia District Development Commissioner, has been transferred and posted as Joint Secretary to the Chief Minister.

Another state civil service officer Deba Prasad Misra has been named principal private secretary to Chief Minister Sarma.

These changes come within a day of as many as 27 Assam Police officers including SPs being promoted or transferred to different parts of Assam.

Soon after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam, the government had announced the appointment of IAS officer Samir Sinha as the Principal Secretary to the CM. Sinha who had served as Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup and Tinsukia, was serving as the Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare. Sinha is a 1994 batch IAS officer.
