TANGLA: A tortoise was rescued at Borjolah village near Tangla town in Udalguri district on Sunday morning. The local villagers were netting fish in Huduma River and spotted the tortoise near a sluice gate which was safely rescued, said Pranjal Deka, a local. According to reports, the tortoise weighing about 25-30 kilograms was later brought to a local Shiv Mandir where people in large numbers thronged to witness the mammal.
"We have taken the tortoise for its safe custody and after examining its prima facie health will make arrangements for its release in the pond of Satra temple of Darrang," said a forest official of Tangla Forest Beat Office.
