LAKHIMPUR: Total lockdown has been imposed in Lakhimpur districts along with other seven districts of the State, owing to high COVID-19 positivity rate in recent days. According to the new standard operating procedure (SOP) issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Tuesday, the curfew order will come into effect from 5 am on July 7 and remain in force until further notice.

According to the new SOP, all work places, business and commercial establishments, restaurants, dhabas and other eateries, sale counters, showrooms of cold storages and warehouses will be closed in the district until further notice . However, shops dealing with groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy and milk booths, animal fodder can be opened up to 5 pm every day. Moreover, all inter-district passenger transport services and movement of people to and from other districts will remain suspended. Public gathering is banned in the district.

Regarding the new COVID-19 SOP, Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan addressed a press meet on Tuesday evening at the conference hall of his office in the presence of Bedanta Madhav Hazarika, the Superintendent of Police. Addressing the media persons, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to the people of the district not to violate the protocol and stay at home to check the pandemic contagion. He added that the district administration would initiate strict steps against the lockdown violators as per provisions of Disaster Management Act, 2005. He also called upon the owners of grocery shop, fruits and vegetables sellers, dairy and milk booths, animal fodder points to ensure COVID-19 appropriate behaviour during the time of functioning. The SP also asserted that police personnel would be vigilant across the district against the lockdown violators.
