LAKHIMPUR: A total of 34 COVID-19 patients were detected in Lakhimpur on Friday.

Thirteen of the newly-detected patients have been identified as Pavitra Saikia (37), Arunjyoti Saikia (20), Manalisha Saikia (26), Polash Saikia (2), Gitashree Borah (10), Renu Saikia (48), Moniram Saikia (50), Jyotishmon Saikia (2), Anupom Saikia (6), Manik Saikia (44), Gopal Saikia (50), Duleswar Saikia (75) and Porismita Saikia (11), who are the residents of Samuwa Gaon under Naoboicha Block Primary Health Centre. These persons came to contact with Bhupen Saikia, son of Gopal Saikia, who was detected positive for coronavirus in Dhemaji on July 5. Bhupen Saikia is an employee at Vishal Mega Mart in Dhemaji and he came home to take local medicine thinking that he was suffering from pneumonia. He was at home from June 29 to June 30 for the purpose. During the time, a religious programme was held in their house and all these COVID-19 patients came in his contact on the occasion.

In addition to them, 11 more persons of North Lakhimpur town, who came in contact with Abha Baruah of Bormuriya Tiniali, tested positive for coronavirus on Friday in the district. They are - Bishmita Baruah Hazarika (48) Maini Dutta (20), Sangeeta Borah (42) of Milan Nagar, Jesika Borah (15), Satyakam Borah (39) of Milan Nagar, Dipti Dutta (37), Rishantjit Dutta (7), Binita Tamuli (40), Pallabita Dutta (41) of Bormuriya Tiniali, Ranu Nayak (48) and Anu Bhuyan (56) of KB Road.

The other patients who are detected positive for COVID-19 on the same day are Sanjib Borah (31), Purabi Mahanta (26), Kalpana Mahanta (53), Pallavi Mahanta (29) of Khelmati Shantipara in North Lakhimpur town, Lakhi Gogoi (45) Chiringchuk, Jasoda Basfor of Railway Colony and safai karmi of North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital, Satyajit Deuri (37), Raju Chutiya (27) of Bhimpora Balijan, Sailen Das (30) of Mornoi Bebejia and Jagadish Pegu of Dhakuakhana subdivision. Of them, Sanjib Borah is a professor of the Assamese Department of Pragjyotish College in Guwahati. He lives in Lokhra in Guwahati and he was detected positive for coronavirus after coming back to Lakhimpur. Coming in contact with him, three persons of his in-laws' family named Pallabi Mahanta, Kalpana Mahanta and Purabi Mahanta were also infected. The latter four patients are returnees from other States.
