GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident in Guwahati, a traffic police officer was seen brutally assaulting a man on a two-wheeler riding with his family.

The incident took place on Thursday 17 March in the middle of the road at the Paltan Bazar area of the Guwahati metropolis.

The traffic police who physically assaulted a civilian has been identified as Fakruddin Ahmed, a traffic constable deployed in Paltan Bazar Traffic Branch.

The rider stopped by the traffic police has been identified as Biki Prasad Gupta.

People on the spot recorded the incident and a video clip showing the fight between the civilian and the traffic police surfaced.

In the video shared, the traffic official was seen stopping a man riding a bike along with his family. As soon as he stopped the two-wheeler rider a big brawl broke out between the two following an argument as seen in the video.

Both the civilian and the rider got involved in the fight as the two were seen hitting each other and the whole incident was caught on camera.

Fakruddin claimed that the man was coming from the wrong side of the road therefore he has stopped him for not following the traffic rules.

After the bike was parked a tussle occurred between the two in between the busy road and later other police officials had to interfere to break the fight. The other police officials entering the argument also assaulted the man.

However, in taking action against the case of police brutality, the higher official took no time to remove the traffic constable from his service.

In an order from the Police Commissioner, the traffic police constable Fakruddin Ahmed has been suspended with immediate effect for the indiscipline conduct in the middle of the road.

The order issued by the Commission on Friday 18 March, further added that the traffic police will draw subsistence allowance as admissible under the rules.

Additionally, traffic police in charge at Paltan Bazar, Pranab Chandra Deka was also reserved closed by higher officials.

Meanwhile, the two-wheeler rider Biki Prasad Gupta is also taken under police custody for his fight with traffic police.
