Traffic Suraksha Enforcers help in realizing fines reducing road mishaps

HAILAKANDI: The District Transport authorities here have collected Rs.2.54 lakh by way of fines in the past two months, thanks to Traffic Suraksha Enforcers.

District Transport Officer, Syed Rafiqul Mannan said the amount has been realized by way of fines following the launching of Traffic Suraksha Enforcers WhatsApp Group where the public report on traffic violations by way of photos and videos. The group was floated on June 27. "0n receiving a photo of traffic rules violation, we initiate action by sending a challan to the registered owner of the vehicle stating the penalty provision and fine. This has not only led to realisation of fines but also most importantly in reducing traffic mishaps and fatalities," quipped Mannan.

The transport authorities here in order to increase the number of participants organised a competition with cash prizes to the sender of highest photographs.

1,739 actionable photographs on traffic violations were received with 98 users taking part in the competition. The names undisclosed of the first, second and third prize winners have been announced on August 31. The first prize winner for Rs.5,000 sent 515 photographs followed by the second prize winner for Rs 3,000 with 411 photographs and the third prize winner for Rs.2,000 with 239 photographs.

The authorities are planning to give away the prizes to the winners in the next meeting of the District Road Safety Committee.

Meanwhile, Mannan has requested the members of the public to help in curbing traffic violations and road accidents by sending photographs and videos on the Traffic Suraksha Enforcers WhatsApp no.9954546010 in the interest of safety of road users.
