Training on life-saving Skills Conducted in Hailakandi

Hailakandi: Scores of headmasters, principals, and teachers underwent training on school safety in Hailakandi. The two-day training on school safety that concluded on Friday is an initiative towards the implementation of the National School Safety Policy (NSSP). It was organized by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) at the District Institute of Education and Training campus.

Besides, a two-day block level training on first aid and life-saving skills for school focal point teachers (SFPTs) was organized by DDMA in association with ASDMA and the Indian Red Cross Society at Katlicherra. The training conducted, as part of the NSSP initiative, concluded on Saturday. Prior to this, a similar training for SFPTs was held at Hailakandi.

District Project Officer, DDMA, Rupjoy Maibhangsa disclosed that various life-saving techniques, including first aid, were demonstrated by master trainer and SDRF personnel to keep school students safe from all threats – external or internal, natural or manmade. “Each school must provide a safe and healthy learning environment for the students. Families and communities expect schools to keep their children safe from all threats – external or internal, natural or manmade. The training will enable the schools to be in a state of preparedness to mitigate these threats,” said Maibhangsa.

The DDMA official underscored the need for every school to have an Emergency Response Plan incorporating the course of action the school authorities must adopt to handle any exigency, including the appropriate response of teachers, staff and students to ‘ensure the safety of life, property, and environment’.
