DIBRUGARH: A three-day orientation-cum-training programme for Programme Officers (POs) belonging to various NSS Units at Colleges affiliated to Dibrugarh University was organized at Dibrugarh University from November 28 to November 30.

It was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor in-charge, Dibrugarh University, Prof. Jahnabi Gogoi in the presence of Prof. Surajit Borkotokey, Dean, Student Affairs, Dibrugarh University and Prof. Devid Kardong, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University on November 28. Both Prof. Gogoi and Prof. Borkotokey underlined the importance of NSS in general and the orientation programme in particular.

Prof. Kardong called upon all the attendees to make the programme successful.. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Himadri Barman, Assistant Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University.

35 POs who have been newly appointed or who have not yet attended any orientation programme attended the programme. It was organized by the NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University in association with NSS PG Unit, Dibrugarh University.

Dr. Amar Upadhyaya, Senior Programme Officer of the NSS PG Unit, Dibrugarh University oversaw the programme. The external resource persons for the programme were Dr. Hemanta Rabha, Training and Capacity building specialist; Omar Faruk, Internal Auditor, Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam; and Dr. Rimjim Borah, Programme Officer, NSS Unit, Gargaon College.

The internal resource persons were Dr. Devid Kardong, Dr. Himadri Barman and Dr. Amar Upadhyaya. The valedictory function on November 30 was graced by Prof. Neeta Kalita Barua, Dean, Faculty of Education, Dibrugarh University. She appreciated the role played by the NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University and remarked that the orientation-cum-training programme was timely organized. She also mentioned about the newly-formulated NSS courses for the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) under Dibrugarh University.

A few participants shared their experiences in the valedictory function. There are 125 NSS Units under the administrative supervision of the NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University.
