Training Programme on Mushroom Cultivation Concludes in Tinsukia

TINSUKIA: Aimed at boosting the rural economy, a 7-day skill training programme on ‘Mushroom cultivation for self-employment’ for rural youths concluded at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tinsukia under Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat on Monday.

Held under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) scheme of Sub- Mission on Agricultural Extension (SMAE) of National Mission on Agriculture Extension and Technology (NMAET) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, in association with of National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad and State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Assam, the training programme was attended by 15 trainees from different parts of Tinsukia district.

The objective of the programme was to provide hands-on skill training to the rural youths of the district of Tinsukia. In the programme, trainees were enlightened upon the cultivation techniques of different types of mushroom while covering other aspects such as nutritional value, health benefits, management of post mushroom substrate, value addition and role of SHGs in production and marketing of mushroom. Special importance was given to market linkage opportunities for self-employment of rural youth. The course was coordinated by Dr. Sarodee Boruah, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection) and different topics were covered at length by experts of different disciplines led by Dr. Sanjoy Borthakur, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Tinsukia. A training manual, besides mushroom spawns along with other critical inputs for cultivation of mushroom, was provided to the trainees at the end of the programme.
