DIBRUGARH: The local youth of West Banasbari Durga Puja committee, Dibrugarh are now busy giving finishing touches to the Durga Puja pandal. For the last five years, West Banasbari didn't engage any workers from outside to build their puja pandal. The local youths have taken the initiative to built their puja pandals. Sumit Sarkar, a youth of Banasbari had started to make pandal a few years ago. His work has been praised a lot.
Speaking to The Sentinel, Amit Banerjee, secretary of West Banasbari Durga Puja committee said, "This year our theme is based on "Save Nature Save us". We are making the pandal with toko pat and other eco-friendly material. We are hoping a good crowd during the Durga Puja festival in our puja pandal." "We have not hired anyone to construct our pandal. Sumit Sarkar with other youths of our locality has been making the pandal. Last two years, due to Covid-19 pandemic, we could not organize Durga Puja in a big way but this time we are organizing a Covid-free Durga Puja," Banerjee said.
He said, "We are organizing a plastic-free puja. We have not used any plastic materials. We have used Toko pat, straw, jute, bamboo and wood to decorate the pandal." Sumit Sarkar further said, "For last one month, we are making the pandal and within two days, the whole pandal will be completed. We have already placed our idols in the puja mandap. We are very happy that this time we are organizing the puja without any restriction."
