LAKHIMPUR: A cinematic tribute was paid to Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his 11th death anniversary at Lakhimpur Commerce College on Saturday evening. Organized by the Cine Club of the college in association with Lakhimpur Cine Club the programme saw the screening of Mera Dharam Meri Maa, a Hindi movie by the maestro produced by the government of Arunachal Pradesh in 1976.
The screening programme was inaugurated by Rajib Gogoi, a short filmmaker and well known playwright and a senior advocate from North Lakhimpur. In his inaugural speech Advocate Gogoi thanked the organizers for making a unique tribute to Dr Bhupen Hazarika by screening his film. The function was also attended by Farhana Ahmed, secretary Lakhimpur Cine Club and senior journalist, film critic. In her address, Ahmed expressed concerns by the growing lack of interest by Assamese people to carry forward the legacy of Dr Hazarika globally at par with his contemporaries like Paul Robson and Bob Dylan.
