Gossaigaon: On Sunday evening, Trinamool Congress staged a protest rally along with a street meeting along the Assam-Bengal border NH-31 at Barovisa of Alipurduar district. More than 5,000 activists took part in the rally which was flagged off by Alipurduar district TMC president Mridul Goswami in presence of MP Dusrat Tirki, party leader James Kujur, Sapan Kujur and others. The rally started from Vivekanda field towards Assam side and then returned to Barovisa Chowpati where an awareness-cum-street meeting was organized by the Kumar block TMC committee.

While speaking to mediapersons, Trinamool Congress district president Mridul Goswami stated that their party led by Mamata Banerjee had been opposing the NRC since the very first day and would stand by every Indian whose name had not been included in the NRC and especially warned the State and Central governments to stop harassing Bengalis in the name of NRC. He also alleged that the BJP was using the NRC issue as their weapon for the membership mission.

“BJP has been blackmailing local people in the name of NRC,” he said and added that names of few illegal immigrants had also been included in the NRC under the shade of BJP.
