Khowang: Based on secret input, Khowang Police on Friday seized a truck loaded with illegal Catechu (Khair) timbers.
Police upon receiving the inputs launched a patrolling drive at the National Highway 37 in Khowang area in Moran under Dibrugarh District and seized a truck (PB 13BB 8015) and apprehended the driver for not producing any proper valid document.
A case has been registered in connection to the matter Khowang PS (Case No 66/19) under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
As per police report, the truck was coming from Rupai siding in Tinsukia District and heading for New Delhi.
Later, the police handed over truck-laden with illegal Khair timbers to the Forest Department.
Meanwhile, the police team is conducting Naka Checking on various routes in the Dibrugarh District and Tinsukia District.
Earlier on August 22, 2019, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha, Makum Unit seized a truck laden with illegal timbers in Tinsukia and handed them later to the Makum Police.
Reportedly, those illegal timbers are allegedly smuggled from Arunachal Pradesh and sold at various places in the state illegally.
It is to be noted that the BJP Yuva Morcha had seized two trucks laden with illegal timbers in less than 24 hrs.
In a similar kind of incident, Jakhalabandha Police, with help of Bagori police outpost, seized four illegal teakwood-laden 10-wheel trucks from Bagori area at NH-37 and arrested the drivers and handymen on August 19, 2019.
According to police, the teakwood-laden trucks were coming from Dimapur and heading for Kolkata. During the search-stop when police asked for papers, plyboard challan papers were produced by the drivers. Police then busted the racket and recovered the illegal teakwood from all the four trucks.
The registration numbers of the four trucks are ML-06-T-1325, NL-01-AD-0697, NL-01-AD-2269, NL-01-AD-2273. The market value of the seized teakwood is believed to be around Rs 10 lakh. Police later registered a case and apprehended all the drivers and handymen of the trucks.
