Truck laden with illegal logs seized at Numaligarh

Numaligarh: Acting on a tip-off, a team of foresters seized a three-axle truck laden with illegal logs on Wednesday night.

As per information received, the logs were carried from somewhere in the lower part of Arunachal Pradesh. Numaligarh Forest Beat officer Jayanta Goswami stated, “The truck tried to flee when we signaled it to stop, however, we succeeded to seize the truck with a large number of illegal logs. But the driver and handyman of the truck managed to escape by taking advantage of the darkness of the night.

A large number of illegal logs were seized in Numaligarh-Bokakhat area in recent times. But despite the strict vigil of the police and eorest department, the black marketing of illegal wood continues and is in a rising trend in the region.

The seized truck (Reg. no- AS-01-E-9706) is currently in the custody of the Numaligarh forest beat office. The market value of the seized logs is believed to be in lakhs.
