BOKO:  Boko Police seized a truck laden with rice bags on Tuesday morning at Boko Bazar. Boko Police Station officer in charge Phanindra Nath said, “On 07/08/2023 at 03:30am, information was received from a source that one vehicle registration number AS-25-EC-2428 loaded with suspected stolen Public Distribution System’s (PDS) rice was coming from Champupara side, Chaygaon LAC towards Meghalaya via Hahim.”

Public Distribution System (PDS) evolved as a system of management of scarcity through distribution of food grains at affordable prices or free of cost in some states. Over the years, PDS has become an important part of the Government’s policy for management of the food economy in the country.

“Accordingly, we stopped one vehicle bearing registration number AS-25-EC-2428 (Tata LPT truck) at Boko Bazar. On checking the vehicle three persons namely Sahabuddin Ali (32 years) from Kanhara village, Chaygaon, driver of the vehicle; Jakir Hussain (31 years) from Shampupara Pathar village (Chaygaon) and Sirajul Islam (29 years) from Chaygaon’s Shampupara Pathar village were found sitting inside the cabin of the truck,” added OC Phanindra Nath.

Nath further said, “The vehicle was driven by Sahabuddin Ali. On checking the vehicle, it is found that there are 200 bags of rice loaded in the truck. They could not produce any documents in support of the loaded suspected PDS rice. Accordingly, the Tata LPT truck loaded with 200 (two hundred) bags of suspected PDS rice were seized and brought to Boko Police Station.”

In this regard Boko Police Case No. 367/23 US - 379/411 IPC, R/W Sec. 7 of EC Act has been registered and investigated. All the three accused persons have been arrested and forwarded to judicial custody.

Citizens of Boko area have highly appreciated the Boko police for their action against the smuggling of PDS rice. Police sources said that the market value of these 200 bags of rice is more than three lakhs rupees.
