TINSUKIA: At a time when the mystery of coal miner Pranjal Moran’s death still remains unsolved, two coal miners died at Mulung Pahar under Ledu PS in the Tinsukia district on Wednesday night. They were involved in rat-hole mining at abandoned Coal India’s Deep Lachit Mine at Mulung Pahar.

While one miner has been identified as Nayan Phukan (24), son of Rupeswar Phukan of Ledu’s Itakhola, the other still remains unidentified. The body of Nayan has been retrieved from the mine. The SP of Tinsukia, Abhijit Gurav, however, confirmed the death of one miner. The family members of deceased Phukan claimed that he was hired by one Khitish Debnath to work in illegal mines.

Meanwhile, the general secretary of Tinsukia district committee of International Human Rights Council, L Ratan Singh demanded before the Tinsukia district administration and Assam Government to identify the main culprits while instituting a high-level inquiry. Singh suspects that the body of the other miner who also died has been concealed by the coal mafia.
