Boko: The All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU), Kamrup District Committee took out a two-day long mass protest rally to oppose the Assam State Capital Region Development Authority Bill (ASCRDA), 2017.
Around 34 sister organizations took part in the rally which started from Bondapara village under Boko LAC to Gobordhan village in Chaygaon LAC in Kamrup district. The rally started on Friday and concluded on Saturday evening. The rally was taken out on NH-17 and crossed over 30 km.
ARSU and other organizations have been protesting since 2017 when 378 villages of Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council were included in the Guwahati city expansion under the ASCRDA Bill, 2017. More than 2,000 people took part in the protest rally and raised various slogans.
In the rally, ARSU president Ramen Singh Rabha, Sixth Schedule Demand Committee president Mohidhar Rabha, ARSU Kamrup district president Hiteswar Rabha, Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council members Ramakanta Rabha, Sumit Rabha, Aditya Rabha, Arjun Chetri and many other leaders took part. During the rally, ARSU president Ramen Singh Rabha alleged that the government had forcefully tried to destroy the green zone area which was under the RHAC area by extending the Guwahati city area. He warned that unless the government fulfilled their demand, they would intensify their stir in the days to come.
