TINSUKIA: Two drug peddlers were shot at after they attempted to escape from the police dragnet at Tinsukia bypass near Makum on Wednesday.

Police, acting on a tip-off, regarding transportation of drugs (heroin), intercepted one Tata Nixon vehicle bearing registration number AS03Z 7172 which was heading towards Roing in Arunachal Pradesh from Dimapur. But seeing the police party, both the inmates of the vehicle tried to escape. Police later chased them and resorted to firing to stop them. Both of them were injured on their legs and shifted to Tinsukia Civil Hospital for treatment.

So far 10 packets (soap boxes) of suspected heroin (110 grams approximately) have been recovered from the vehicle. Follow-up action is on. Names of the injured drug dealers are Amar Das (35) and Upen Mili (36), both residents of Dimapur.
