DOOMDOOMA: Two motorbike riders met with an accident when a dumper truck bearing no. AS23BC7233 coming from Dholla side had a head-on collision with the motorbike at Talap around 1pm on Thursday.
The dumper truck fell into a roadside ditch after knocking down the bike and smashing the two bike riders. The two bikers - Rukman Mahanan (21) of Beesakopie TE line No.2, a boiler seller, and Biki Dhar (22) of Shanti Nagar, Rupaisiding, a vegetable seller, were going to Talap around noon. On receiving information, Talap police rushed to the place of accident and brought them in a critical condition to a private nursing home at Rupaisiding. But the doctors declared them brought dead. This enraged the residents of Rupaisiding and they resorted to road blockade on NH -37 just opposite the Don Bosco School, demanding adequate compensation to the victims and placing of speed breakers for traffic control.
On the other hand, the furious tea labourers of Tara TE resorted to road blockade at Doomdooma bypass and Doomdooma river bridge on Thursday morning in protest against killing of one Abhiram Rajak, an employee of Tara TE, by one Swift car bearing no.AR-16 A3051 coming from Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday afternoon near Doomdooma bypass. It is alleged that the driver of the Swift car picked up Abhiram Rajak after the accident and put him in the trunk of the car and fled the spot. Rajak's family members searched for him in the hospitals of Doomdooma and Tinsukia. When they became clueless about him, the information was given to police about the accident. But the police also failed to trace him.
Consequently, the police of Roing in Arunachal Pradesh informed Doomdooma Police around night about the surrender of the driver of the Swift car along with the body of Abhiram Rajak there. The alleged lethargy of police in initiating prompt action in an accident case like this caused discontent among the tea workers. As a consequence, they resorted to road blockade. Reportedly, the protesters had heated exchange with the police while resorting to road blockade.
