KOKRAJHAR: Two persons were murdered in two separate incidents in Kokrajhar district within two days. In a shocking incident, a woman named Gaide Basumatary of village Sutharpara under Kokrajhar police station was brutally murdered by unknown miscreants on Saturday evening at her residence where she used to live alone.

The villagers said that Gaide Basumatary, the second wife of Satiram Basumatary, father of four children, used to live alone at Sutharpara while her husband lived with his first wife at Chariali under Runikhata police station of Chirang district along with their four children. They said that Satiram, who runs a medicine store at Chariali and is known as 'Doctor Gwran' in the locality, got married to Gaide Basumatary about a year ago. Gaide, who hailed from Shantipur of Chirang district, was brought to Sutharpara by Satiram and left alone while he used to stay with his first wife in Chariali. They also said that Satiram used to come to Sutharpara now and then and he was always suspicious about his second wife having relations with other men. Villagers have pointed fingers of suspicion on Satiram for Gaide's murder. Further investigation is on.

On the other hand, Bikas Limbu, son of Purna Bahadur Limbu of village Limbupara under Serfanguri police station in the district, was allegedly killed by domestic helper Birsa Lakra on Friday evening. His body was recovered on Saturday.

Sources from Kokrajhar district committee, AGSU, said Bikash was taken away by the domestic helper, Birsa to River Longa to catch fish on Friday evening at around 7 pm but when they were on the way to the river, Birsa attacked Bikash with a sharp weapon and threw his body in the Longa River after killing him. Birsa surrendered himself at Serfanguri PS that night along with the sharp weapon and Bikash's body was recovered the next day. The district AGSU has demanded proper inquiry into the killing.
