DHUBRI: Two miscreants were picked up for pelting stones while eviction on railway land was going on in Newghat area of Dhubri town since morning on Thursday.
A source in the district administration informed that in 2019 and again in 2020, notices were served by Alipur Railway Division to vacate the land encroached upon there. However, encroachers put up steep resistance to eviction and in order to stop the eviction, they pelted stones at the JCB excavator which broke the glasses and halted the eviction.
On hearing upon the incident, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Ambamuthan MP and Superintendent of Police, Abhijit Gaurav rushed to spot and brought the situation under control.
Talking to The Sentinel, Officer -in-charge of Dhubri Police Station, Partha Pratim Gogoi informed that two persons suspected to have been putting up resistance and pelting stones, were picked up and are being interrogated. The eviction on the railway land will continue till the encroachment on the old railway track was cleared, a railway officer said. The officer also informed that after eviction, new railway track would be laid for connecting it with the Dhubri River Port for goods transportation.
