Two Model Village Panchayats selected from Barpeta district

BARPETA: Under the Parliamentarian Model Gram Yojana, from Barpeta district two Gaon Panchayats have been selected. One is Banghugi Gaon Panchayat under Rupsi development block and another is Bahmura Gaon Panchayat under Bhawanipur Gaon Panchayat in Barpeta district

An important meeting with the officials of all the departments was held here on Monday to discuss the ongoing and proposed activities in these two Gaon Panchayats so that they are not interrupted due to the prevailing situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic and devastating flood.

The meeting held in the auditorium of District Rural Development Agency was presided over by Member of Parliament from Barpeta Lok Sabha Constituency, Abdul Khalek and was attended by District Development Commissioner Dr Babul Sahariya and other officials. The representatives of NABARD and local banks and Block Development Officers of Bhabanipur and Rupsi Development Block also attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed at length about the prospects of development in these two backward areas through inter-department activities. Abdul Khalek directed to organize meeting in Panchayat level and to implement schemes on priority basis under existing programmes.

As per information provided by District Information and Public Relation Officer Bikash Sarma, the Central Government has asked to adopt five Panchayats under each MP this year under MP model village scheme.
