LAKHIMPUR: Two more COVID-19 patients were detected in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday and Thursday. One of them has been identified as Nakul Bhumij (32), inhabitant of Kacharipothar village under Ujjalpur Gaon Panchayat of the district, while the other is Jyoti Doley (26), inhabitant of Khajuwa Patiri village under Dhakuwakhana subdivision. Nakul Bhumij tested positive on Wednesday and Jyoti Doley on Thursday.

Notably, coronavirus was detected in the swab samples of 17 returnees from other States on Monday while five other returnees in the district were found infected with the fatal virus on Tuesday as per the result of the swab sample tests reported from Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH). With these figures, the active number of COVID-19 cases in Lakhimpur district rose to 24 till the filing of this report.

Nakul Bhumij had the history of travelling from Chennai where he was working as worker. He set off on his return journey to the native district along with other returnees on May 16 by bus. He arrived at Sarusajai Stadium of Guwahati on May 23 and then he was sent to Lakhimpur on the same day. He arrived in Lakhimpur on May 24 and his health was screened at the health screening centre set up at Madhavadeva University located at Narayanpur. Then he was admitted in the COVID Care Centre (CCC) set up at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya located at Bihpuriya. After he tested positive, he was shifted to the Dedicated COVID Health Centre (DCHC) of Lakhimpur district set up at Telahi Model Hospital.

On the other hand, Jyoti Doley also came back home from Chennai on May 23 and arrived in Lakhimpur on May 26 via Dibrugarh. On the same day, his throat swab was collected at Subansiri College scanning centre and then he was quarantined at the CCC set up at North Bank College under Dhakuakhana subdivision. After testing positive, he was also shifted to DCHC of Lakhimpur.

The Lakhimpur district Health Department sent a total of 106 swab samples, including 7 swab samples of medical personnel, to AMCH on Wednesday for COVID-19 test. In the district, a total of 162 people completed their home quarantine period of 28 days on the day with a cumulative total of 5,622 till date. On the other hand, 148 persons were quarantined at various CCCs under the district on the same day.
