Two persons arrested in Sarupathar, arms recovered

SARUPATHAR: Based on a tip-off, a team of Sarupathar and Barpathar police arrested two persons from the railway station here and recovered a .22 mm pistol. The arrested persons were coming from Dimapur by the Rangiya-Dibrugarh Express. The police team arrested the two persons and seized a .22 mm pistol with three live ammunition rounds and one magazine from their possession. A case has been registered at the Sarupathar police station under Dhansiri Subdivision.

According to a source, the arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Manik (chicken seller) and Islamuddin, resident of Lahorijan along the Assam-Nagaland border. The two apprehended persons also confessed that they have come to Sarupathar to sell the pistol at Rs 55,000 to an unidentified person. Meanwhile, the arrested persons were taken to the Sarupathar police station and interrogation is on.
