Two smugglers held, 39 kg ganja recovered by Darrang Police

MANGALDAI: A team of Darrang Police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Mamoni Hazarika, on the night of November 13 arrested two ganja smugglers and recovered 39 kilograms of contraband ganja.

The arrested ganja smugglers have been identified as Sukur Ali (40) of village Chokorabasti under Dalgaon Police Station in Darrang district and Ashadullah (20) of village Laudong under Udalguri Police Station in Udalguri district. The police team, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a speeding DI goods carrier at Chikanmati on NH 15 under Dalgaon Police Station and recovered the ganja worth value Rs 2,34,000 which was smuggled out from Udalguri district. The police, meanwhile, seized the vehicle bearing registration number AS 27 C and registered a case under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act. Darrang Police, as per the instruction of Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan, have intensified their operation against smugglers and other anti-social elements.
