Two ULFA (I) cadres surrendered before Security Forces in Tinsukia

Guwahati: Based on a confidential input, of movement of a group of ULFA (I) cadres in an area under Pengeree Police Station, a joint search operation was launched by Tinsukia Police yesterday evening along with 210 Battalion Cobra Camp Bordumsa, 68 Battalion CRPF, Colns of 21 Para Security Force & 3 GarhRif in the area of Tekri, Pengree Police Station.

After applying considerable pressure, two ULFA (I) cadres surrendered before the joint team of police and other security agencies at around 2115 hrs.

The apprehended cadres were identified as Pronobjyoti Bora alias SS PTE Ridip Asom (25) son of Gopinath Bora, resident of Shantipur village in Dhemaji, Rohit Kuli alias SS CPL Polo Asom (29) son of Lilakanta Kuli, resident of 2 Gajpuria village, Amarpur Police Station under District Sadiya.

During the operation, the security forces seized two Chinese Hand Grenades from their possession.

Earlier on July 25, 2019, a surrendered ULFA (I) cadre was arrested today by the Guwahati Police for extorting money from a businessman.

The surrendered cadre named Deepan Das was caught red-handed by the Bharalumukh Police of Guwahati, while he was collecting money from a businessman of Dhubri.

Das has been allegedly involved in extorting money from the businessman on behalf of former ULFA commander Drishti Rajkhowa aka Manoj Rabha.

The former commander had demanded Rs 10 lakh from the businessman and Das had been there to collect the first installment of Rs 1 lakh.

A surrender identity card, Rs 1 lakh, and two mobile phones have been recovered from Das. Furthermore, inputs provided by Das to the police have also led to the arrest of another ULFA cadre in Goalpara.
