KOKRAJHAR: Two youths of Magurmari, namely Kausik Mandal and Rinku Roy, who were involved in brutal mob attack case in Kokrajhar have been arrested by Kokrajhar police on Sunday while prime accused of the incident, Rajat Mandal, who is also reportedly a close aide of one of the BTC EMs of BJP, is absconding. The two arrested youths were brought to Kokjrajhar police station for interrogation.
One Meda Brahma of Dhaoliguri village along with Muktar Ali bought a cow from a nearby village and brought it to his uncle's house at Magurmari on August 4 when a group of youths led by Rajat Mandal rounded them up and started beating them mercilessly, accusing them of being cattle thieves. Meda begged pardon with folded hands saying that they were not cattle thieves. The youths did not listen to his plea and tortured both of them. They were later admitted in the hospital in serious condition.
MLA Lawrence Islary condemned the incident and urged the police and district administration to nab the culprits early and punish them according to the law of the land. He said the government of BTR had been working for peace and development for all and therefore a peaceful environment among all sections of people was of utmost importance. He called upon all to uphold peace and harmony.
Meanwhile, the president of the ABSU Dipen Boro on Sunday said, "We cannot allow mob lynching or inhuman and brutal attacks on common people under suspicion. We will not tolerate barbaric attacks and the elements who are trying to derail the peaceful atmosphere in Bodoland." Boro said the ABSU will not remain silent against those elements who are trying to create a chaotic situation. He urged the police and district administration to arrest all the accused wherever be and take stringent punishment at the earliest.
On the other hand, Kokrajhar police on Sunday have arrested two youths, Kausik Mandal and Pinku Roy vide case no. 270/2023 U/S 143/341/342/386/325/307 IPC while prime accused Rajat Mandal is absconding.
