UBPO delegation calls on Union Ministers to discuss issues of tribal communities

LAKHIMPUR: A delegation of the UBPO (United Bodo People's Organization), led by president Manoranjan Basumatary, general secretary Amrit Basumatary, and chairperson Badal Mussahari, on Thursday called on Ramdas Athawale, Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, and Arjun Munda, Minister for Tribal Affairs, at their residences at Toghlak Road in New Delhi.

The delegation was comprised of Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member (CEM) Mihiniswar Basumatary, Deputy CEM Romeo Narzary, chairperson Gambaru Mussahari, EM Anil Basumatary, UBPO treasurer Bistiram Narzary, Karbi Anglong District Kachari Samaj secretary Sonaram Basumatary, Karbi Anglong District Bodo Sahitya Sabha general secretary Khagen Goyari and Ex-BLT Welfare Association president Santanu Basumatary.

In this connection, UBPO president Manoranjan Basumatary informed that the delegation of the organization held a meeting with the two ministers of the Union Government. During the meeting, the leaders of the organization apprised the ministers about the burning issues of the Bodo community as well as other tribal communities of the State. They requested them to implement developmental schemes with rapid progress in the backward areas where the Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes of the State live.

Further, the UBPO delegation invited the two ministers to take part as guests of honour in the open session of the 8th annual session of the organization to be held from February 26 to February 28 in the upcoming year at Langhin of Karbi Anglong district. Both of them assured the delegation that they would attend the event.
