Kokrajhar: The United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) organized a public meeting at Gohpur in Biswanath district on Saturday on the present development of creation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council outside BTC districts.
Talking to The Sentinel, the general secretary of UBPO, Anil Basumatary said the leaders of the organization discussed with the public elaborately about the achievements of its movement and actions taken by the government regarding the much awaited Boro Kachari Autonomous Council for Bodo and other tribal people living outside BTC.
Basumatary said a huge gathering at Daimalu Bodo High School at Gohpur in Biswanath district was organized by Biswanath district committee of UBPO and Forest Rights Committee. The meeting was presided over by Beremwdwi Narzary, president of Biswanath district committee of UBPO, where more than 1,500 people gathered along with the leaders of Bodo frontal organizations of Biswanath district.
UBPO expressed satisfaction over the move and actions taken by the State Government on the matter of FRC to implement Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditionally Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act 2006. Mihiniswar Basumatary, president of the UBPO, hoped that the State Government would fulfil the long-pending demand of creation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council as early as possible.
The general secretary of the organization, Anil Basumatary demanded that the State Government should bring budget during the winter session of assembly for creation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council outside BTC districts as assured.
