Kokrajhar: United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) has urged the Government of Assam to bring the Boro Kachari Autonomous Council bill in the winter session for the socio-economic development and protection of culture, language and literature, tradition and political rights of the Boro and other tribal people living outside BTC region.

Talking to this correspondent, general secretary of the UBPO, Anil Basumatary said an executive meeting of the organization was held at Bodoland Guest, Khanapara in Guwahati on Sunday with Mihiniswar Basumatary, president of the UBPO in the chair. He said the meeting discussed on some vital issues, including nine-point charter of demands of the organization.

Basumatary said the UBPO was not satisfied with the delaying tactics on the creation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council by the Government of Assam and resolved to urge the State government to ensure to bring a new bill for creation of the council in the winter session. He also warned that the organization was likely to launch democratic movement if the Government of Assam failed to fulfil its commitment. He also said on October 31, there will be a dharna in 21 districts of UBPO across Assam as the first agitation programme if the Government of Assam failed to take concrete policy on creation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council. He also expressed grave concern over the political disunity among the Bodos in BTC and appealed to them to be united for the greater interest of the people.
