UDALGURI: Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia, the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district, has urged people to wear masks and maintain social distancing to avoid the unwanted COVID situation.

"The second wave of COVID-19 is very infectious. As a precautionary measure, all are requested to follow strictly COVID protocol in public places," he said. He was talking to media persons in Udalguri to apprise about the vote counting and COVID situation.

There will be 64 counting supervisors, 61 counting assistants, 58 micro observers and 18 grade IV employees to man the counting of 64 Panery, 69 Udalguri and 70 Majbat constituency. The poll percentage in the district has lowered to 77.91 per cent. The reason for the decreased poll percentage will be reviewed, he added. Prakash Ranjan Gharphalia was accompanied by Debashis Borthakur, the Election Officer, and Nilakhi Baishya, the assistant commissioner and DIPRO in-charge. Gharphalia has also honoured media persons and extended Rongali Bihu greetings.
