TANGLA: The members of Conscious Citizens' Forum, Udalguri (CCFU) called on Udalguri Deputy Commissioner Prakash Ranjan Gharphaliya on Friday and submitted a memorandum to check the unabated use of domestic LPG cylinders in hotels and tea stalls in and around Udalguri town, which has led to artificial scarcity of the cylinders for general customers.
The CCFU team, led by president of the forum, Sarat Basumatary and secretaries RR Sapkota and Milan Das, urged the district administration to launch crackdown in the hotels and tea stalls to find out about the misuse of the domestic cylinders in commercial establishments, including hotels and tea stalls, and to take necessary action as per law. The forum alleged in the memorandum that unlike in other parts of the State and country, home delivery has been stopped in Udalguri town due to such reasons and a section of unscrupulous people have started black marketing of the LPG cylinders.
The forum also alleged that most of the hotels and tea stalls in the town do not serve safe drinking water to their customers and instead compel them to buy packaged water bottles. The forum urged the district administration to ensure potable drinking water to customers in the hotels and tea stalls. The Deputy Commissioner, taking cognizance of the matter, directed the civil supply officer concerned to tackle the problem and report to him.
