LAKHIMPUR: Rajashree Boro of Dibrugarh, who was stranded in Ukraine, finally arrived at home safe and sound. She arrived home on March 8 by a flight of IndiGo airlines from Mumbai to Dibrugarh via Kolkata after she and her friends were evacuated by the Union Government through Operation Ganga.

Her arrival in a safe and sound condition brought the smile back in her family. Her father extended heartfelt thanks to the Prime Minister, Union Government and all concerned for evacuating her safe.

Notably, Rajashree Boro is the eldest daughter of Ananta Boro, an employee of Oil India Limited, and Tara Boro, residents of Digboi Milan Nagar. She was studying medical science in the Ternopil University of Ukraine since last year. After the Russian attack on Ukraine, Rajashree had also been stranded in the country in a miserable condition along with one more Dibrugarh Naliyapul based student named Pratyashi Deka. These two Assam students were accompanied by one Arunachal Pradesh-based student and one West Bengal-based student. Under such circumstances, UBPO (United Bodo People's Organization) demanded the governments at the Centre and in the State to evacuate Rajashree Boro soon from the war-affected country.

Arriving at home, Rajashree narrated their adventurous journey in Ukraine. On Thursday, she informed this correspondent that after the war broke out, they traveled from Ternopil to Romanian Border on February 26 and walked around 17 km to reach the border. They stayed near the border around three days amid chilling cold.

"We left the Romanian border on the third day. Then we went to Chernovitsi and stayed there for a day in a hostel near the bus station. Next day, we took a 7-hour long bus ride to Uzhharod. We reached Uzhharod on next morning. There also we stayed in hostel for a day. Then we left for Hungarian border the next afternoon. We travelled around 200 km by bus to Hungarian border. We crossed the Hungarian border on March 4," Rajashree stated.

She added that after they crossed the Hungarian border, they were directly taken to Budapest. They left for India on the next afternoon.

"We reached Mumbai Airport on March 7 around 8:00 am. Then I and my friend were attended by Assam Government officials at the airport and taken to Assam Bhavan. We stayed at the Assam Bhavan in Mumbai for a day. We left for Assam the next day and reached home on March 8," Rajashree asserted.
