Kharsang/Guwahati: Based on specific intelligence inputs from Army Intelligence Agency regarding the movement of ULFA-I Cadre in general area Sankhapanifor carrying out sabotage activities against the Security Forces in the eve of Republic Day 2019.

As per a press statement, an operation was launched by the 9th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles at Sankhapanion on Tuesday and apprehended one ULFA-I cadre during the operation.

The apprehended ULFA-I cadre identified as Ram Bahadur Lama (41) alias SS Lance Cpl Papu, son of Dhan Bahadur Lama is a resident of (Permanent address) Village - Kothasema, Jagun, Tinsukia (Assam) and presently staying at Village -Sankhapani District - Changlang (Arunachal Pradesh) have been apprehended.

Following the operation, one 9 mm Pistol (Made in USA) with 01 Magazine, 15 round of live ammunition, 03 Chinese Grenade, 01 Remote IED & 01 detonator with remote and batteries have been recovered from the ULFA(I) cadre.

Further investigation by a joint team of Army and Police revealed that they were tasked by the proscribed outfit to hide the heavy amount of warlike stores in general area Sankapani, Kharsang.

It was also revealed that these stores were placed with an aim of launching several sabotage actions on Indian Security Forces and Government functionaries in the eve of Republic Day 2019.

Meanwhile, the apprehended ULFA (I) cadre was handed over to Police Station Kharsangand First Information Report was lodged.

It may be mentioned that this operation is part of the ongoing crackdown by security forces on the terrorist organization active in Upper ASSAM wherein there have been several apprehension of these cadres.
