UN Academy celebrates 3rd Rongjali Bwisagu at school premises

Kokrajhar: UN Academy, Kokrajhar on Sunday celebrated the 3rd Rongjali Bwisagu at its school premises in a colourful way. The principal of Janata College, Dr. Subung Basumatary, who is also the chairman of UN Brahma Trust, inaugurated the Bwisagu traditional dance competition. Talking to reporters, the director of UN Academy, Krishna Gopal Basumatary said the school started the celebration of Rongjali Bwisagu three years ago to encourage the young generation to preserve the age-old traditional Bwisagu festival. He said the school aimed at preserving the rich culture, tradition and heritage along with providing qualitative education. Since Bwisagu is the greatest festival of the Bodos, it is the duty and responsibility of every individual to preserve the tradition and culture of the society, he said, adding that the school encouraged the students to understand the basic character of Bwisagu.

Basumatary said the school used to organize Bwisagu traditional dance competitions among the students with traditional attire where prizes and certificates were given to the winners. An open Bwisagu dance was held in the school compound where students and guardians also took part.
