Numaligarh: Erosion continues unabated at several places under Morangi Revenue Circle in Golaghat district. Massive erosion by river Dhansiri continues to pose threat to the existence of the villages like Mithaam Chapori, Jathipotia, Kenduguri of Doigrung area. As no required anti-erosion measures have been taken by the authorities concerned at these specific areas, Dhansiri river continues to swallow hectares of agricultural land in different parts. Despite sending multiple applications, petitions to the government, no action has been taken for saving these families living in these areas. With their croplands and houses swallowed by Dhansiri river, people are becoming homeless, living on roads and relatives’ houses. Becoming daily wage labourers is the only option left for them to feed their families. People also alleged that no step has been taken so far to relocate these affected families. It can be mentioned that if the erosion continues at this rate, the entire area is likely to disappear into the womb of Dhansiri soon. People of the area have demanded the authorities to visit the erosion-affected areas and to take up anti-erosion measures very soon.
