UNESCO expert Lim Chen Sian concludes inspection of Charaideo Maidam

UNESCO International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) expert Lim Chen Sian, who arrived in Charaideo on October 7, conducted a detailed inspection for the third consecutive day for the recognition of the Ahom-era Maidams at Charaideo as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Monday.

SIVASAGAR: UNESCO International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) expert Lim Chen Sian, who arrived in Charaideo on October 7, conducted a detailed inspection for the third consecutive day for the recognition of the Ahom-era Maidams at Charaideo as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Monday.

The UNESCO expert Sian, who arrived in Charaideo, along with a team of officials from the Government of India and the Department of Archaeology, Government of Assam, visited the heritage site along the outskirts of Charaideo Maidam on Monday.

After inspecting the main moidams in the Charaideo Maidam area, Sian inspected the Bali Moidam Borgohain Pukhuri, four no.s of Konwari Maidam, Changmai Shal, Raja Moidam, Sha Nia Ali, Langkuri Deoshal, Chukapha Maidam, Juria Maidam, Phuleswari Konwari Maidam, Sha Dhowa Pukhuri, Petu Dhowa Pukhuri, and other historical materials that were spread around an area of 600 bighas of the buffer zone of the Charaideo Maidam Site and collected information from the officials of the archaeology departments. He also took photographs and videos on his mobile.

Sian also took a glimpse of the lifestyle, food, culture, etc. of the Ahoms. On Sunday, he visited the Buddhist monastery of Cholapathar Shyam village near Charaideo, inhabited by the Tai Khamiang people, to get acquainted with the customs of the Tai Ahom people. After observing all the historical materials, the UNESCO expert interacted with the local residents and organisations in the vicinity of Charaideo Maidam.
