Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Address Rallies in Kokrajhar, Nalbari Today

GUWAHATI: Union home minister Amit Shah who is on a two-day visit to northeast India, will address two mega public rallies in Kokrajhar and Nalbari, Assam on January 24.

The Union Minister will be attending the one-year celebration of the signing of the historic Bodo Peace Accord at Green Field in Kokrajhar.

After addressing the gathering in Kokrajhar, Shah will also attend another meeting in lower Assam town Nalbari.

The union home minister is likely to be accompanied by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and health, finance, education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Meanwhile, Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) LR Bishnoi said that all security arrangements are in place. Over 2000 people have been deployed to fix any last-minute issue in the Greenfield Ground in Bodofa Nagar, Kokrajhar where the programme would be held. The ground has a capacity to accommodate over 3.5 lakh people.

Around 400 CCTVs have been installed and two control rooms have been set up for constant monitoring.

Speaking to the media, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Promod Boro said that the entire Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is eagerly waiting for the Home Minister's visit who had taken a special interest in signing the BTR peace accord.

A four-day programme has been planned to celebrate the 1st BTR Peace Accord signing ceremony from January 24.

The day is celebrated as Accord Day. The historic peace agreement 'the third Bodo Accord' which designed to usher in peace in Assam's Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD- currently spread over four districts- Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri) was signed on January 27, 2020, a day after the 71st Republic Day by the Home Ministry, Assam government, and a range of Bodo stakeholders. The Accord, promises to bring in 'permanent peace'.

It is to be noted that Shah is already in Assam for his two-day visit to the state. He reached Guwahati today and then moved to Meghalaya to chair the plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong.
