TEZPUR: Union Minister of State, Ministry of Jal Shakti and Tribal Affairs Bishweswar Tudu on Wednesday inaugurated the New Laboratory Building of North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), Department of Water Resources, RD&GR, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Tezpur in the presence of Prithiraj Rava, Member of Legislative Assembly, Tezpur, Assam, Deba Kumar Mishra, Deputy Commissioner, Sonitpur, CEO Zilla Parishad Karabi Saikia and Dr. Pradip K. Bora, Director, NERIWALM.

The programme started with a tree plantation followed by ribbon cutting and lighting of the lamp. The minister took a quick tour of the new laboratory building where NERIWALM Director shared information and details related to design and utilization of the new building. Following the inauguration programme, an interaction session was held in the conference hall, main building of the institute. NERIWALM Director gave a brief presentation on various activities and achievements of NERIWALM where the minister applauded the work being carried out by the institute with suggestions to organize regular meeting with the state departments/officials.

The minister also highlighted about the new schemes and policies of the Government where NERIWALM can play a vital role in reaching the maximum target participants. To increase the publicity of the institute, he urged to prepare a short documentary about NERIWALM and share it to various social media platforms and to make the social media accounts active. The minister also interacted with State departmental officials and took the feedback about the contribution and collaboration of State departments with NERIWALM. Since Panchayati Raj Institutes are working at grassroot level, he asked NERIWALM to disseminate the various activities of NERIWALM through PRIs/ VDCs. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks from Dr. Ch. Victoria Devi, Assistant Professor (S.Sc).
