GUWAHATI: The
government of Assam would erect a memorial in memory of Parimita Das, who was the
first casualty of the Majuli boat tragedy.
While visiting the family of Parimita, former Assam Chief Minister and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has assured that a memorial would be erected in the memory of Parimita.
"We are together with the people of Majuli in this time of grief. Parimita's tragic death has shaken us all. Our government is committed to provide all kinds of assistance to the bereaved families of the tragic Majuli incident and shall erect a memorial in her remembrance," said Sarbananda Sonowal who is an MLA of Majuli.
He also said that his government along with central government are committed to complete the construction of bridge connecting Majuli and Jorhat within the next four years.
The union Minister also wrote on his Twitter handle, "The untimely demise of young talent Parimita Das, Assistant Professor of Rangachahi College, Majuli, in the Nemati Ghat boat tragedy is extremely sad. Visited her Guwahati home and offered my condolences to her family. I pray for eternal peace of the departed soul".

Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal visited his home
constituency, Majuli on Friday in the aftermath of the tragic boat accident
over Brahmaputra River that happened near the river island district on
September 8. The minister interacted with local representatives and heard their
views regarding the incident and expressed his deep condolences to the victims
of the accident.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, the minister stated that being the public representative of the river island district, he will always stand with the people of Majuli and look after its development. He also said that Central and State government agencies will work in tandem to dredge the river Brahmaputra so that Ro Pax vessels could travel between Majuli and Jorhat in the winter season. "Majuli has given me huge love and affection, and I will always work for the development of the river island district", the minister added.
Meanwhile, the all Assam Engineer's Association (AAEA) demanded a complete revamping of the State's water transport services for the safety of passengers.
